How was 2010 to me? Part 2

In part one, I vaguely covered how 2010 was for me from January to June - I say vaguely because it was more generalized manner; as opposed to a blow-by-blow account of what happened to me. For a more daily-oriented approach, there's always my other blog - minutuaemusings, where I have an ongoing project 365 photoblog. Now for part two...

Having said that, July was where I had ot come up with a Palanca letter to Bryce for his retreat. A Palanca letter, apparently, was named after a letter that a father gve his child - said letter saying how he felt, and offered the child some sage advice. Well I'm no stranger to such writings - in fact, maybe like the author of the first Palanca letter, I found it more a struggle to see what I need say - how to say it and what to leave out as non-essentials. But write the letter I did. Hope Bryce appreciated it.

August was a failed attempt to go to Cuenca - even with three birthdays to celebrate - the weather was non-cooperative, plus we (that is, Barbie and I) were rather busy with work. Hence we just had to postpone said trip.

September's highlight - at least, at the back of my mind right now, was the Birthday party of Meiji - Bryce's ex. Of course, back then, they weren't exes yet. and we were all invited to her birthday. Back then I thought I say a few signs of their impending breakup - like Bryce not too keen on going... though he was keen on getting her the sunflower a few weeks ago. I learned of the break up later... must have been awkward to have us there, if they weren't really into each other by then. I later asked - but Bryce did not bother giving details. Oh well...

October brought me to Cebu after... oh man... decades I think. I had to go there because Gina had a sudden schedule conflict, and spent almost a week there with Fiel to teach a PM class. The experience was nice... got to see Ayala Mall's new look - but hardly had time to really drink. After work, we were both tired and preferred to stay in our separate rooms - me, to read a book and sleep (I finished two novels while I was there).

November was another failed attempt to go to Cuenca as scheduled - but things started getting hectic with our schedules.,, and there seemed to be no training slowdown in sight - then again, I wanted them to bring it on... after all, if the past was any indicator, I'd say that we'd have a slowdown of operations come mid-December, so I needed to make sure I had a lot of reserves to last until Christmas. Unfortunately, we also had a lot of holidays that ate up about a third of my average cash inflow, and Fred... making good on previous discussions, offered ot sell his Toshiba laptop to me. Since my older Dell was not working, I needed a new laptop ASAP... even if it meant some belt tightening. Lucky for me, my December predictions proved false.

Unlike in the past years, our trainings for 2010 only ended in the day before the night before Christmas... meaning up to the 23rd. Even better, we got our pay for the month last 21st - offering us cash in time for Christmas. And in case that did not happen, I also considered using my credit card... one that I have not used for the entire year - paying off my balances slowly. Well it looks like all those payments paID off since I got to use the card - with a substantial allowable purchasing balance again... both for groceries - and a few books... and graphic novels.

Yeah... if 2010 made me rethink about anything, it was to reconsider trades as a viable collection - even if they aren't the original print. Over-all, this allowed me
to continue collecting comics - something I stopped some time in 2009 due to economic reasons. 2010, on the other hand, allowed me to buy and read them once again. But I did not stop with just comics. I also experienced a resurgence with buying books for leadership, project management, professional development, etc...

Now I still have books to read, and I hope 2011 continues with it's capabilities to allow me to buy even more - both comics (or trades) and of books.

SO that... in a nutshell was how 2010 was good to me. Yeah... you heard me... it was good. Hope 2011 continues this.
