How was 2010 to me? Part 1

Apparently, 2010 was way better than it's predecessor (2009), and that was because people were looking to a more resurgent economy... with many pinning their hopes on U.S. President Obama's plans bearing fruit. Locally, we were not really looking forward to our own presidential elections in May, and even if we were pegged as a country of optimist (I believe a global survey mentioned something of the like), we were secretly desperate for something different.

January was a bit of a slow start... but start it did, and I started having trainings on a regular basis... which was good, because it offered me some way to get the bills paid. January was when I was also reunited with a few friends - Dave arrived and met with Boyet, Tony and me... so that was something. When he left, we thought of getting together once in a while - didn't pan out though... life (and our need to earn a living... or in Tony's case, finish his nursing studies) made sure we were too busy to follow up on that.

Guess that is one of 2010's disappointments... not having enough get together with some friends - though to balance this out, Brian, Jingo and to a lesser extent Jj, had semi-regular Bacardi nights with Barbie and me in our place.

One other item worth mentioning... I had to help Bryce find a tux for his J.S. prom. How about that? But with the exorbitant prices for such wardrobe, we opted for the more practical approach and ended up renting one. Come to think of it, looks like he'll need another one soon - this time, though... as a Senior. Maybe we should get him one this time? Or not.

February gave me more of the usual busy time-frame - with trainings happening more often, plus the fact that I was a combination of both a Technical and People Skills facilitator. A role that seemed unique to me then... though now I could say that of my current colleagues, Gina may very well be close to doing the same juggling act.

March saw me getting a DSLR on my birthday... and because of this, I was able to enter the world of photography with much more gusto. I even started a photoblog (which I am still continuing in my minutiae musings blog. I must say that same time last year, my skills in photography have grown leaps and bounds - and I've yet to really focus on improving my skills here. I've also accumulates a bit of a library of books - and even invested in tow bookshelves for all my books (Lord know's I need another bookshelf too). Oh... and I was really saving up for a DSLR myself - but Barbie beat me to the punch. Not complaining, mind you.

It was around this time that I also tried to link Fiel and APC with John and Red Cross - a match made in heaven (at least on paper) , but apparently, it seemingly did not pan out. Oh well... I'm still in touch with both parties, so who knows? I've also joined John's Red Cross as a volunteer... and may help produce web contents for them soon.

Meanwhile, trainings were being offered regularly - and whereas before we were cautious about our having trainings as regularly as we've been getting - things really started looking up in that front... not just in March - but until the day before the night before Christmas. So yeah, 2010 was a good year for training assignments.

As the months went by, I even met a few new colleagues - primarily Rex Isles, a very cordial person... and great drinking companion (aside from Fiel) in the McKinley Hill area. Of course, aside from Rex, there was Lovern, Biboy and Kiko. But even with these guys, we seemed to be barely fulfilling the training needs of Accenture... not to mention the fact that Rex decided to leave and do something else entirely.

June was when I experienced my first photo-shoot - accompanying Jojo Buenaventura on a Rotary Induction, and feeling how it was to be a professional photographer - just snapping away to capture the highlights of the evening. It was tiring, and I did not realize how heavy the camera (with flash set-up) could be when carried two to four hours straight. I definitely had greater respect for those guys after said gig.

What did I miss out with Jojo in 2010? A golf tournament!!! AARRRRGH!!! Oh well...

I'll continue this reflection in part 2 tomorrow.
